Buckden Parish Community Web-siteThe parish of Buckden lies on the Dales Way, at the northern end of Wharfedale and consists of the village itself, nestling under the impressive bulk of Buckden Pike, as well as the hamlets of Cray, Hubberholme, Raisgill, Yockenthwaite, Deepdale, Beckermonds, Oughtershaw and Greenfield. Set in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, Buckden is a popular destination for walkers and holidaymakers, with excellent walking and many delightful places to eat, drink and stay! There is a thriving local community with many events taking place throughout the year. The principal commercial activities are farming and tourism with many businesses catering for the visitor, as well as for local residents. This web-site has been created under the leadership of the Parish Council to provide a source of information about the village and the area, for both visitors and local residents. |

News of Buckden Bill.
I recently received an email from Peter Dodds - a retired mining
engineer, which may be of interest " "They say you can find anything on the web, and in this particular case, it is true. I am 80 years old now, and writing a journal of my life for my son and daughter. Recently I tried to find information about a skeleton in an old lead mine in Yorkshire. I came across several references including your article. You see, I was one of the students who discovered the body. We were keen potholers and I was a student of Mining Engineering at Birmingham University in my second year. My memory is dim these days, but I think there were four of us, the leader being one Dave Carlisle. I didn’t have a close look at the body myself- I think I was scared!!! Certainly the one who spotted him first came back along the level screaming and in a panic. It was obvious that no one had been in that level for many many years, the access being at the top of a vertical shaft (a winze) from the adit level. I just thought I’d make contact in case there is more to the story and to try and answer any questions you might have."

They want people living and working here
to be involved – please fill in the Let’s Talk Food survey

A licence for the 2024 season costs £46.50 for garden waste collections between March and early December (existing customers in Craven, Hambleton and Ryedale will pay a reduced price of £42 as they have already paid for their March 2024 collections). The licence covers one 240-litre wheelie bin to be emptied fortnightly (depending on where they live, some residents may have an equivalent number of compostable liners or sacks/bags). Tree felling around Buckden
- Information from Peter Katic of
the NT : Some of you may have noticed that the National Trust have been
felling trees next to the Dales Way by Buckden Bridge. Wherever possible
we prefer to allow trees to live out their natural lifespan, but these
trees were ash severely affected by ash dieback, a serious fungal
disease characterized by the progressive death of the tree's branches.
Affected trees growing in areas where there is an increased risk to
people need to be made safe by either removing branches or felling
completely. We’ve left the majority of the timber as deadwood, so they
will still have value for wildlife over the next few years, and will be
planting some more as replacements once the work is completed. There
will also be some work to remove dead and dying ash along the roadside
to the north and south of Buckden.

Buckden Village Institute - Update At the recent Institute Committee meeting it was decided that, for the next year, hire of the hall will continue to be free for residents of Buckden Parish. This is because the Institute is in a robust position financially, and we are keen to encourage greater use of the hall. This applies to bookings for events that are being organised by members of our community and that are open to all, as well as to bookings for the private use of the hall by individuals. The committee arranges a variety of regular events during the year including quizzes, coffee mornings, skittles, and a range of one-off events. However, anyone in the parish is welcome to organise an event using the hall, so if you have an idea for something you would like to arrange, please do talk to us.

Remembrance Day Service -
Buckden Pike Cross
John Seed has sent the following message to us: "On Saturday 11th November 2023 at 1100 there will be a short memorial service at the Buckden Pike Cross. The event always takes place the day before remembrance Sunday - whatever the weather! This year it falls on remembrance day. I have been attending the event for approximately 20 years but I meet familiar faces at the summit who have been doing it twice as long. We do not linger too long in the clouds after the service (no more than 15 mins). If you are so inclined then please join us at the cross. I shall be setting off from the car park at Buckden around 0830 for a "gentle stroll" to the top."

Buckden Singers are holding an open rehearsal evening on 14th September
at 7.30pm in the Institute. There is no audition and no necessity to
read music. All we ask is an ability to sing in tune. (Most of us do!)
and for you to make a regular commitment to rehearsals. We are a very
friendly group of people who would love to see you: there is no pressure
to join if you find it's not for you. For more details, call Anne
on 760882 Please come along if you are interested - you would be
made most welcome.

broke down the field for all their hard work over the last couple of
days. A big thank you too, to Janet & Ellen for getting the Sheep Show
going again after a three year break. All in all, a great
Buckden afternoon, which raised over £4,000 for Institute funds.

Coronation Street Party
A reminder that about the Street Party on
Sunday 7 May from 12.30pm as part of the King’s Coronation celebrations.
The street party will be held in the lane behind the village hall and in
a marquee and gazebos in the garden of Fairlawn in the event of bad (or
hot??) weather. The street party will be open to residents of the
parish, and also to any holiday makers staying in the parish on that
day, so please do mention it to your holiday cottage guests. It would be
really helpful to have a rough idea of numbers planning to attend, to
enable us to set out an appropriate number of tables and chairs on the
day, so please can you email Debbie on
streetparty@buckden.org to let her know if you will be
coming (alternatively you can message her on 07799 480245 or via the
Buckden Community WhatsApp group). It will be a Jacob’s Join event, so
please can you let Debbie know whether you plan to bring a sweet or
savoury dish so that she can ensure that there is an even balance of
both. Although there will be a complimentary glass of wine on arrival,
please plan to bring your own drinks too. We really hope that you will be able to join in the celebrations with us. |

Low Greenfield New Woodland Creation - Community Information Day National Trust in Upper Wharfedale has been fortunate to receive funding for an area of new native woodland creation at Low Greenfield near Beckermonds. Work on this project is starting at the beginning of March, with the work being carried out by a mix of contractors and National Trust staff, alongside volunteers. We’re holding an open day on Saturday 25th March for anyone who would like to come along and have a chat about our plans and see what we’re up to. There’ll also be a chance to do some tree planting too if anyone’s interested. The planting is taking place just beyond Beckermonds, on the road towards Low and High Greenfield, just beyond the second gate past the farm. We’ll be parked up on the roadside and would be delighted to see anyone who’s able to come along, either for a chat or to do some planting. Please feel free to email Peter Katic on peter.katic@nationaltrust.org.uk , especially if you think you might like to help with the planting or if you have any questions.

as heating oil and LPG, and will pay £200 to domestic households to help
with heating bills this winter. Most domestic householders will not need
to take any action as they will receive the payment automatically in
February through their energy supplier alongside the Electricity Bills
Support Scheme Payments.Householders who do not have an account with an
electricity supplier and who are off the mains gas grid will be able to
apply through a Government portal which will be made available in
February." For more details

Used stamps for charity
There are a number of charities that still accept used stamps to raise
much needed funds this Christmas, so although a bit late in the day, if
you would like to contribute, please either cut or carefully tear off
your stamps with a 1cm/1/2” margin, collect them in an envelope and put
them in our letterbox at Keepers Cottage on the main road next to
Hartrigg House, before the 6th January. We will then vote for which
charity you would like to support and I will send them off. For further
information go to
www.countryliving.com and search
for the article ‘19 charities accepting used postage stamps as donations
this Christmas’ Many thanks in advance - Sandra.

Hubberholme Church autumn tidy up We are planning two mornings to do some work to tidy up the two churchyards. The main job is the annual cutting of the rough grass areas to the side and back of the church but we will also get a few other things tidied up. The main tools needed will be strimmers and rakes for the grass and loppers for cutting trees etc back. We should also have the Kettlewell strimmer/mower to help get the grass down. We have two dates: Saturday 15th October and Wednesday 19th October from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. I know that mid-week is better for some people but Saturday will be better for others. You are of course welcome to come to both! If you think that you will be coming please tell me so that we can manage the work appropriately. Thanks for your help. Keith keithjedderefisher@gmail.com |

A second refugee house is being kitted out. Well done and many thanks to all those who have been or will be involved. Richard Hargreaves and Paul Stead raised over £70 for Upper Wharfedale Refugee Support group to support Ukraine hosts and families at Buckden Gala. Many thanks to Richard and Paul, and to all of you who came and supported the event. The Covid situation is poor just now and things will be uncertain over the next few months. For the third year, refugee welcome days are going ahead in the summer holidays, but outside using back-gardens as a base. If anyone would like to host a day of offer a cake please get in touch with Stella (no need if you have already responded). |

28/06/22 | Buckden Gala The Gala was not quite the low-key restart after the pandemic that we started planning for before Christmas, due to the Championship Fell Race with more than 400 runners, but thanks to much hard work by many people it all went extremely well, and we managed to cope with unprecedented numbers of people. We don’t yet have a final figure, but the profit at the moment stands at £3,915 excluding our share of the Fell Race car park receipts which we expect to amount to several hundred pounds. Once we have a final figure we will of course publish it. The Institute Committee would like to thank all those from Buckden, Wharfedale and beyond who helped or who supported the Gala in any way.

Stuart Ebden - Penny has asked for the following message to be posted here: "I am very grateful to all those who sent me cards and letters, and gave personal tributes to Stuart following his death. I have found it very comforting to know that my husband has given so much to this village in the relatively short time we’ve lived here, particularly his membership of The Buckden Singers. Shortly before he died, on our usual walk along the river bank, Stuart suddenly stopped, gazed around and said “Just look at all this, Pen, what better place to die”. He might have drawn his last breath in Bradford Royal Infirmary, his body buried at Tarn Moor Memorial Woodland in Skipton but I believe his spirit is here, in Buckden. Many thanks, everyone - Penny" |

11/04/22 | Major Sporting Event in Buckden As reported here previously, this year's Buckden Pike Fell Race, to be held on Gala Day - Saturday 19th June, is a championship event. Keith Jeddere Fisher has provided this explanation of the significance of this years event: "The Buckden Fell race during the Gala is going to attract many of the best mountain runners in the UK. A chance to see elite athletes that you have never heard of battling each other on Buckden Pike for silverware! This year the race is part of almost every fell running championship there is! It is the only race in England for the British Championship, one of six races for the English Championship and the only race for both the Yorkshire Senior & U23 Championships. In addition to the elite athletes there will also be some local runners enjoying the day. At the beginning of April there were already 502 entrants. A chance for records to fall? The men’s record is 30 minutes 51 seconds by Colin Donnelly in 1988 and the ladies record is 36 minutes and 32 seconds by Carol Greenwood in 1993. The ladies’ race is at 1.00 pm and the men’s at 2.30 pm."

Network Infrastructure
improvements for Buckden parish
- Two major projects are in the pipeline which, if they come off, will
radically improve Buckden's network and telecoms infrastructure.
Boundless Networks are planning to provide Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
capability as far up the dale as Buckden village whilst maintaining and
upgrading the wireless service up Langstrothdale. FTTP will provide
speeds of up to 900 Mb/s, with a 150 Mb/s circuit costing ~£32 per
month. Meanwhile planning is underway for the provision of a 4G mobile service for the area. Details are still somewhat vague but it is expected to provide Vodafone, O2 and Three mobile coverage both for the village and up Langstrothdale. This will be a huge improvement over the Vodafone ROSS 3G service which is showing its age. |

Buckden Village Institute
Revised Covid Measures
The Institute Committee met this week to discuss and agree the updated
risk assessment and principles for use of the hall, in the light of
revised government guidance, advice from Community First Yorkshire, and
the current levels of vaccination and infection in Craven. On this basis
it was agreed that there should be some limited relaxation of the Covid
Secure measures.
Click here to read a summary of the
Covid Security measures for the hall. This approach will allow some
further activities to restart, albeit potentially in modified form.
Others activities (e.g. Buckden Singers) will have to take place in
larger venues, simply due to the numbers of people involved.
The committee is keen to encourage use of the hall however, and for the remainder of 2021, the hall will be available free of charge, for use by local individuals and groups . Anyone interested in booking the hall should email hall@buckden.org. Event organisers will be supplied with a copy of the updated Risk Assessment and Covid 19 Special Conditions of Hire. Watch this space for details of upcoming activities and events. |

To ensure adequate ventilation this will be held outside and under cover. We will be taking bookings for diners as always from 6.00 to 7.30 so if you are wanting to stay for the 'gig' please be sure to specify an outside table. We will also aim to reserve tables for those just wanting to listen to the music from 8.00 ( each table can seat up to six people). Food and drinks will continue to be exclusively table service, so we hope this will enable us to enjoy some excellent live music without compromising our safety.Drop us a line or give us a call if you would like to join in. Cheers - Ed, Jackie, Sarah, Scott and George"

Buckden Parish Council
- Vacancy Message
from Peter Breen - "Buckden Parish Council is actively seeking to co-opt
another member to complete the 5 person team. No qualifications are
required other than being resident in or owning property within the
Parish boundaries and it doesn’t matter how long you’ve lived in the
Parish; it only matters that you care about its upkeep and future and
enjoy being part of a team. We meet once a month on the second Monday
of the month at 7.00pm in the Institute. The duties are not onerous and
are shared out according to people’s skills with due attention to their
other commitments. I would be happy to talk, on an informal basis, to anyone interested in joining us. Send me an email p_a_breen@btinternet.com or give me a ring on 01756 760817. Peter Breen Chairman, Buckden Parish Council |

In the light of the current high levels of Covid infection across the country, passengers will be required to continue to wear a mask when travelling on the 72B Venturer after Monday 19th July. This decision has been taken to protect the passengers and staff by mitigating as far as possible the risks identified in our updated risk management plan.

Buckden Singers - new song released Probably the Zoom Choir's finest achievement so far has to be this: our own ‘Song of Hope’, inspired by Rita Baxter from Starbotton. Members of the zoom choir sent in ideas around their feelings during lockdown to myself and Rich which we translated into some words: Richard then wrote the music: we recorded, and he mixed the final version. Hey presto a four-part rendition of the piece we have written collectively, matched with appropriate visuals. A positive mindset during this pandemic has been hard; our ‘Song of Hope’ goes some way towards bringing a collective optimism and joy. Click here to enjoy!

Upper Wharfedale Primary Federation Governing Body - Would you like to help shape the future of our local schools There are 12 members on the Federation Governing Board all of whom are appointed by different constituencies. It is a fascinating and rewarding role and a chance to make a contribution to the strategic direction of our four schools. From time to time there are vacancies for Parent and Co-opted Governor roles which are open to Parents of children on roll at any of our four schools and to members of the wider community. It would be really helpful to have an indication from anyone who may be interested now or in the future so we can keep your interest on file for when these vacancies arise. Parent Governor roles are by election amongst parents: co-opted Governors are appointed by the Governing Body. If you are interested and would like further information please contact Anne Vetch, Chair of Governors at cofg@uwpf.n-yorks.sch.uk It would be great to hear from you. |

B6160 Road Closure between Kettlewell & Starbotton – Monday 28th June to Wednesday 30th June inclusive. We have received notification that the B6160 between Kettlewell and Starbotton is to be closed from 19.00 to 5.00 the following morning, on each of Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th and Wednesday the 30th June. The approved diversion is 65 miles long through Grassington, Pateley Bridge, Middlesmoor, Masham, Middleham and Bishopdale. (It would of course be possible to ignore the diversion and go via Coverdale but even this is some 28 miles). After extensive discussions with NYCC the following email has been received from the Highways department at the council. “Good Afternoon Peter. I have spoken with a representative from MakeHappen Group who are undertaking the works on behalf of BT. I explained your concerns to them and they have confirmed that should access be required during the closure periods, drivers should make themselves known to the contractors on site who will then move their works vehicles to allow access as and when needed. I hope this now offers an agreeable solution to the issues you have raised regarding vehicular access. Regards Amy Lyle, Network Co-ordinator, Network Information & Compliance, NYCC”. So, if you need to travel on this section of road during the closure periods, you should be able to do so if you ask the contractors to let you through. It would be worth ensuring that any visitors you have staying are aware of this, as they may well not pick it up from local websites or social media

UWRSG - Biasan As many of you are aware Upper Wharfedale Refugee Support Group works very closely with BIASAN, the Bradford refugee group (as we do not have refugees in this area). Over the past year, in spite of Coronavirus the contribution of Upper Wharfedale folk has been significant – primarily the provision of food, toiletries, household goods, language tuition and funding for phones. We have also managed a couple of refugee days out for families. It was announced this week that BIASAN has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary of community organisation can receive. It is very well deserved and BIASAN has worked throughout the pandemic to ease the plight of refugees and asylum seekers in spite of having to close its building and work ‘at a distance’. You may be interested in this week’s Craven Herald which highlights Upper Wharfedale’s contribution to the work of BIASAN. Click here to read. BIASAN greatly values the support we give and it is good to know that they believe the community’s contribution is part of their success. 05/06/21 | David the Happy Hiker David has provided an update on his walking exploits - a great success. He writes: "Welcome to Walkshire! A quick update on the walking and fundraising for Yorkshire Cancer Research. I aimed to walk 100 miles in May; I made it to 130 miles by the end of the month – and I’m still adding more. I hoped to attract £250 in donations; to date (4/6/2021) the donations stand at £1, 252 with a further £252 added through Gift Aid – that’s over £1,500 in total and I know of another couple of promises yet to be translated into £’s. I am astonished! That a short, fat, balding octogenarian – and a Southerner to boot – could raise such a sum is truly remarkable, but then I do live in a wonderfully generous community. Thank you. Anyone wishing to follow ‘your’ progress in the fundraising, just click here It is not too late to support this most worthy cause."

16/05/21 | Buckden Parish Council - Vacancy Would you like to be a parish councillor and help to make the parish of Buckden a better place to live? There is currently one vacancy on Buckden Parish Council because the term of office of the councillors has come to an end. These vacancies have been caused because of an insufficient number of people from the parish standing for election. The council can now fill the vacancies by co-option, which is a process whereby the council considers applications from interested persons and can then select people to fill the seats. If you are interested in becoming a parish councillor, please write to the parish council and include a few details of why you would like to become a councillor together with the skills and experience that you have for the role. If you need any information about qualification for being a councillor or just want more information about the role, please contact Laura Jowett, Clerk to the Council at buckdenclerk@gmail.com or 07859 460535. 15/05/21 | Resumption of Buckden Sunday Walkers After a total washout in 2020 the Sunday walks are ready to resume. The government announced on 8 May that the relaxation of Covid rules allowing for more than 6 people to meet would go forward as planned from 17 May. This , however, comes after the Buckden Sunday Walkers usual 3rd Sunday of the month for walking. With this in mind the May walk will be slipped to the 4th Sunday – the 23rd May. Volunteers for leading the remaining walks of the season will be welcomed. As car sharing is not permitted, the walk will be the 'Yockenthwaite circuit' from the Buck back to the Buck. With, hopefully drinks on return (and some planning of future walks). It is around 9 miles but not much by way of hills and good underfoot if no recent heavy rain. Who is up for it? Usual arrangements. 10.30 start at the Buck. Coffee and lunch break (so bring provisions). All are welcome. If any one is new to this and would like a chat before hand just give Robin or Stella a call on 01756 761 320
15/05/21 | David Lusted - Tour de Walkshire - A message from David Lusted: "Dear Friends - ‘Dalegarth Calling’. After the fashion of Adrian Mole, this 81¾ ‘young’ man is seeking your support – for the Yorkshire Cancer Research campaign. I know I have been lucky in terms of good health – thus far – and, when I heard of this fund raising idea, I knew I had the time and energy to help. I have registered to walk 100 miles during the month of May; it will get me into the countryside and away from under Sue’s feet! My ambition is to raise (at least) £250 – a modest sum, but every little helps. More would be a huge bonus. To any who feel able to support me, please accept my heartfelt thanks; to make a donation of any value, just click here To date, I’ve walked 33.3 miles and feel confident of reaching the target distance. There is absolutely no pressure to donate; a cheery wave if you see me tottering along will be a reward in itself. Thank you. David

Christian Aid Week 2021 — Celebrating 75 years Christian Aid has been working for 75 years campaigning and fundraising, standing together in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours. Changing the world through gifts and action. Reuniting refugees with their families after World War 2, campaigning for the end of apartheid, for Trade Justice and now for Climate Justice. Climate Justice for people living in poverty on the front line of the climate chaos, losing food, water, homes and family. Every day they have to walk further, dig deeper, build stronger to survive the climate changes they did not create. Christian Aid thanks you for your support over the years and hopes you will choose to celebrate with them this Christian Aid week 10 - 16 May 2021. During these unprecedented times, house-to-house collections will not be happening again this year; go to www.upperwharfedalechurches.org to access the Just Giving page, or for bank details should you prefer to donate by bank transfer. Feeling in need of some exercise? Take the Christian Aid 300,000 steps in May challenge to get fit and raise vital funds. Find out more and sign up at caweek.org/steps. If you want to sponsor others to walk, then sponsor the 10 Hour Labyrinth Walk Team event (Saturday 15 May 7am-5pm, Kettlewell Churchyard) by giving your gift www.upperwharfedalechurches.org Christian Aid Week is a joyful celebration of determination to change the world! |

Local Government Reorganisation - The consultation on the re-organisation of local government in this area has now started. This is a very important issue for our community, and the Parish Council is preparing a submission. It is very important that residents make their views known, both to the Parish Council and directly through the consultation process. 18/03/21 | UWRSG - Collection - Message from Upper Wharfedale Refugee Support Group: "Collection of goods for Bradford Immigration and Asylum Support and Advice Network (BIASAN): We have an opportunity for a collection of some household goods and other things for BIASAN. We have an offer of fridges and freezers which means a ’man and a van’ and the possibility of taking a few more things. The needs are very specific: coffee tables, chest of drawer, desks (including a child’s desk), single bed, doubled, bed, carpets, dining chairs and tables (but not big). Blood pressure monitors. New underwear and toiletries are always needed. And, on the food front any donations of chapatti flour, tinned fish, long grain basmati rice, coffee, lentils and treats e.g. jam, chocolate, sweets suitable for vegetarians and biscuits, are very welcome. As you will remember we were unable to make a collection last Christmas and it would be good if, collectively, we could make up for that loss. We would like to be able to send stuff in the next couple of weeks so any offers would be appreciated very soon. Please get in touch with Stella by email ( refugees@upperwharfedale.net )or by telephone. Also, is there anyone out there with strong arms and a good back who might be able to help with loading the household goods? If so your help would be very much appreciated. Voluntary organisations can continue to work through the Covid restrictions and we will make a safety plan."

06/03/21 | Buckden Parish Clerk - After a number of years as clerk to the Parish Council, Louise Close is moving on to take up a senior position with Skipton Town Council. Louise has made a massive contribution to the procedures and smooth running of the Parish Council over a long period and will be greatly missed and we wish her every success in her new job. With typical dedication, Louise is preparing to help us with the transition to a new Parish Clerk, Laura Jowett, who will take over in April. Laura is currently the Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer for Pateley Bridge Parish Council and will also be taking over Louise’s responsibilities at Kettlewell with Starbotton Parish Council. We have been very fortunate to find an experienced and qualified person to take over from Louise and we look forward to working together.

06/03/21 | Kettlewell Churchyard Bird Watch - Folk of all ages in the parish are welcome to come and do a 30 minute or hour long spotting slot in Kettlewell Churchyard over the week 6-14 March. The church is entering a churchyard competition this May and it is focusing for us how little we know of the wildlife that uses the churchyard. We need to understand what biodiversity of wildlife we are protecting and feeding so that our management of the churchyard is the best we can make it. Hopefully, there will be doing a broader wildlife watch in June. Click here to see the poster

Derek Green Derek's funeral service is to be held at Holy Trinity in Skipton at 1.00 pm on Tuesday 2 February. Due to the restrictions in place, we already know that alas, there will be no places available at the Church. Derek is to be buried in the Churchyard in Hubberholme and folks are welcome to come to the burial ceremony which will take place at approximately 2.30 pm. There is of course a limit on numbers (max 30 people) and so if you could please let either Lynne or Jackie know whether you are able to attend that would be really helpful.
31/01/21 | Buckden Gala 2021 At last week's Institute committee meeting it was agreed that in the light of the current Covid-19 crisis, and the uncertainty of how it will develop over the coming months, the 2021 Buckden Gala will not take place. We hope that it might be possible to hold some form of small-scale local outdoor event later in the summer – however it will be some months before we get a sense of whether this might be feasible, and our priority will be the safety of our community. We are of course hopeful that the Gala will be able to take place in 2022.

Marjorie Davis Marjorie (Anne Peter's mother) died on 28th December at Craven Nursing Home. A cremation was held on 5th January, the service being taken by James, with just a handful of family present due to Covid restrictions. Ann is hoping that they can hold some sort of thanksgiving at Hubberholme Church sometime in the future but in the meantime any donations for the church in Marjorie's memory may be sent to Brooksmithandson@btconnect.com (Skipton). Our thoughts are with Ann and her family at this time.

02/01/21 | The Buck Inn I received the following message from Jo early last week but have only just got round to posting it: "The Buck Inn will be closed until further notice. We hope to reopen as soon as possible but at the moment we have taken the decision that it is just not the right thing to do for many reasons. With the looming tier review which will almost inevitably lead to a situation of more areas being subject to tighter restrictions and higher tiers, it is not the right time to risk reopening yet. We wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope to be back really soon. Jo & Jeremy" Clearly, they were proved right by events!
