The return of the Buck Inn

To celebrate the arrival of the new owners, about 40 villagers met at the Buck Inn on Sunday evening for a welcome drink (or two)! Everyone agreed it was great to be back in the pub which, after less than a week in the hands of the new owners, already felt much more welcoming than under the previous regime. See pictures below.

Villagers will recall the memorable poem penned by Polly which bemoaned the state of the pub under the previous owner. In Polly's absence, Anne Newman read out some verses she had written to complete the poem and to give it a happy ending!

We hear that down in Harrogate

The people quake in fear

They say “It’s Little Wonder

Since the Baskerville is here.

We’d better lock our daughters up

And stay at home at night”

But Harrogate ’s misfortune

Is Buckden’s great delight

The day has come – that happy day-

For which we’ve waited long

Give hearty cheers, and raise a glass

THE BASKERVILLE HAS GONE!
