Buckden Singers battle through power cut…

When the lights went out in Buckden last night, with just two weeks to go before their anniversary concerts on the 16th & 17th March, Buckden Singers conductor Anne Vetch decided that the show must go on. Using an old battery powered keyboard, head-torches and candles, the singers, who are currently featuring in the second series of “The Dales” on ITV (Mondays, 8.00 p.m.),  managed a full rehearsal; inevitably the power came back on just as the rehearsal finished. Anne said “they were brilliant – real professionals – and against all the odds John Cowpe worked wonders on the keyboard”. Choir founder member, “Whispering Wilf” Jowsey, who admitted to Adrian Edmondson on “The Dales” this week that he didn’t always sing the difficult bits, added “It’s really hard to mime convincingly when you can’t see the music”.
