Buckden Walkers ‘End of term’ Report, October 2009.

A note of most sincere thanks is due to all who have devised, led and participated in the programme of walks throughout this year.

The walks have been varied and, at times, quite challenging.  Today, for example, saw a hardy group of 15 (+ two dogs) show both athletic determination and typical community spirit in conquering Ingleborough* – the third such triumph of this year’s Three Peaks challenge.  We touched the trig point so know we reached the summit – even though the promised ‘scenic views’ were limited to about 10 yards and ice crystals formed on our clothing.  This did not cool our enthusiasm and all looked forward to the 2010 season.  Photographic proof of our achievement, showing the Ingleborough Luncheon Club feasting on the summit, can be seen below.

Next year we will be putting forward a programme that will include the Dales Way (though not in one go) on the Sunday dates.  Of course there will also be the walks on a Monday as well as the Wednesday ‘Evening Strolls’.

Details of dates and walks will be added to the village web site (and Notice Boards) in the new year.  This should not inhibit anyone from requesting or organizing additional walks in the interim, albeit with a request that ‘weather’ be taken into account!

‘Thank you’ all for your enthusiasm; we look forward to the second decade of the new millennium.  K E E E E P    WALKING.

Lunch - as far as we could tell

The top - note the spectacular views compared to the picture below taken
the previous week in the same spot during the recce walk....

There is almost certainly an innocent explanation for
Dick's hat but it's hard to imagine what it might be!

On the way down - at last!
