Olympic hopefuls train at Buckden House

Tom Jones, a regular visitor to Buckden and Ted Salmon, a well-known resident, stunned locals and visitors alike last week during the Buckden House open day.

It is clearly just a matter of time before they are called upon to represent Great Britain at the Olympics next year.

They both shot their arrows straight into the ‘gold’ area of the target and were typically modest about their achievements:

Tom, aged 95,was a  marksman in the Cheshire Regiment in the 1940s.He admitted that he wasn’t surprised at his high scores, it merely proved that he had retained his skill and his achievement was even more remarkable as his distance glasses had been left in his holiday cottage!

Ted, a mere youngster, said that he did have considerable experience of target practice albeit some years ago when he and Margaret performed their knife-throwing act in Pwllheli!
