Buckden Singers "Songs for a Summer Evening" concert was a complete sell out on Saturday evening with a capacity audience enjoying the delightful setting of St Michael & All Angels, Hubberholme. The Singers, now with thirty four members from Buckden and surrounding villages, put on a varied programme with a mix of classical and popular numbers as well as songs from the shows.
Starting with the popular favourite "Your Raise me Up", the choir numbers included, "The Rose", Beethoven's Ode to Joy and the Vivaldi Gloria, as well as a Gershwin Showcase and a South Pacific medley. The Buckden Singers Quartet sang three numbers finishing with a West Side Story medley, while other members of the choir including Pat Burgin, Josie Cowpe, Sue Woodcock, Steve Charlton, Dave Wiggan and Bernard Way sang solo numbers. Debbie Roe performed two flute solos, and there were feature slots for Debbie, Peter Breen and the ever popular Wilf "Pavarotti" Jowsey.
The choir was conducted by Anne Vetch and the accompanist was local celebrity John Cowpe, last seen playing the organ in the film "Wuthering Heights". Given the high demand for seats, it has been decided to repeat the concert at St Margaret Clitherow Church in Threshfield on 4th October.
