Buckden Walkers - Inn Way - Stage 3: Gunnerside to south of Grinton
Sunday 15 May
Please note that no NT transport is available on this occasion. Ideally walkers with dogs should check that they can team up with a dog-friendly car
Details:
Meet outside Buck 09.30 with cars
2 No cars travel to finish point and one carries on to Gunnerside with other driver, leaving one car behind to ferry drivers to Gunnerside later. (by my calcs we should be able to cater for 17 walkers if 4 per car or 20 if 5 per car assuming 3 cars go straight to Gunnerside. If more than this, two cars would need to be left at the end point]
Other cars travel to Gunnerside where all meet up beside bridge at approx 10.30
Walk is just over 8.5 miles with a total ascent of 490m of which 200m is in the last mile from Grinton where there is an option to stop and be picked up later.
If all goes according to plan there should be a waterfall coffee break and a moorland lunch stop. There are no suitable places to buy food or drink before Reeth which is only 2 miles from the end.
The car left at the end point will take the other drivers back to Gunnerside to collect their cars. While this is happening there remains an option for the walkers to stroll back downhill to the Bridge Hotel at Grinton.
The finish point is on the road between Redmire and Grinton where it meets the track end at OS Ref. SE0420 9675
The whole route was reasonable underfoot when test-driven but heavy rain over the next week could make it muddy over the moors.
It is estimated that we reach the end by 4PM but this is obviously flexible.
