Rescue Hens at Buckden Barn

Six rescue hens arrived this week at this week at Buckden Barn. These are ex-battery hens about a year old which would otherwise be slaughtered. The hens are missing feathers, are very pale in colour as a result of lack of daylight, and have had their beaks cropped; when they arrived they were disoriented, struggled to perch and had to learn how to peck by watching the other hens. Already though they have settled in well, are laying and are enjoying their new life. It is expected that, within a few weeks, they will be fully recovered.
