BT Broadband Accelerator

The broadband accelerator is a self-install device that can be fitted to your linebox (main telephone socket). It can help increase your broadband speed by reducing interference from your home telephone extension wiring. It works by eliminating interference from extension wiring that may have been affecting broadband speed. Not everyone has this interference, and so an accelerator will not make an improvement in every case. Sometimes there may be a small speed or stability improvement, but you may not notice this in normal day-to-day browsing.

BT are now offering the BT Broadband Accelerator free of charge (£1.20 postage and packing) to BT Total Broadband customers with extension wiring and a compatible main telephone socket. If you are a BT Total Broadband customer, click here to order the device.

For broadband users who do not buy their broadband service from BT, the device may be purchased from the BT Shop for £7.99. Click here to go the shop.

Important Note- Read this before ordering:

The device only works with the standard BT NE5 Line Box like this:

Note that if your linebox has the words “Openreach” embossed in the top corner, then you already have an accelerator fitted. See below:

If your linebox does not have a split faceplate – or if it includes a double socket, the device will not work with it. Likewise if you don’t have any extensions you are unlikely to see a benefit.

If you don’t have an NE5 line-box, or your line box is incompatible, then it is possible to get BT to fit one but it will cost you £195(!) and you will probably lose the will to live as you try and find someone in BT who can help you – if you’re really committed call 0800 80015. You may find you need counselling following your contact with BT's ludicrously ill-named "Helpdesk" - if so,  click here to contact the Samaritans.

If you want to discuss any of this, do give me a call
