The open meeting on 7 March was well attended and a number of proposals were put forward for future events.
The following events have been proposed for inclusion in the village hall programme. Some will need further discussion by the committee as expenditure may be needed but this notice is an early indication of what is being proposed.
It is proposed that the Hall will be open and tea and biscuits will be provided for informal social gatherings during the afternoon after the Library Van visits the village. Barbara Hardy has suggested this and intends to arrange the first such session at a suitable date. The intention is to provide a social opportunity for people who do not always want to turn out in the evening to meet and for visitors to come and meet the local community. Watch for further announcements.
The Village Hall committee will consider reviving the indoor bowls.
A darts night will be considered and Linda Portman has agreed to arrange this but we need to look into a means of protecting the floor in case darts miss the target.
Richard Barlow will arrange a games night.
A dominoes event will be considered.
Margaret Salmon will arrange a Halloween Night with pie and pea supper.
Ted Salmon intends to revive the keep fit classes.
We will consider a race night and Megan Lightfoot has agreed to look into the likely cost.
David Lusted suggested that next year we should revive the Shrove Tuesday pancake night that used to take place in the past.
All of the above are in addition to the usual programme of whist and quizzes etc.
The following events, which are not Village Hall events as such, have also been proposed.
Ted Salmon intends to arrange a Treasure Hunt.
Ted also intends to look into a fun bicycle event (which might include a supper in the Hall).
Gordon and Sandra Kilvington and Bev and Gill Owen are going to research a barn dance.
Gordon Kilvington proposes to arrange a volunteer group to collect rubbish from the roadsides and other public areas of the village and neighbourhood.
Any further ideas are welcome (ring Richard Barlow on 760870 or speak to any committee member) and further announcements will appear on the website and elsewhere when decisions have been made.
