Abigail Kelly was born in Birmingham in 1982, and has recently graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire where she studied under Maureen Braithwaite, with further tuition from Stuart Smith, Simon Nicholls, Jane Robinson. She was awarded a course scholarship and the Robert Gahan Award for achievement by a first-year singer.

She has sung with the Howell’s choir at various Cathedrals across the United Kingdom and as a Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir member she has appeared at Birmingham Symphony Hall in Bach’s ‘St Matthew’s Passion’.

Other oratorio include soprano solo in Mozart’s Vespers with Cantando Voices, soprano solo in Mozart’s ‘Mass in C minor’, soprano solo in John Rutter’s ‘Mass of the Children’ for the Centennial Celebrations of the Diocese of Birmingham at Birmingham Cathedral and soprano solo in Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in various venues. In December 2004 she made her Symphony Hall debut singing the soprano role in the Premiere of Bob Chilcott’s Christmas cantata, ‘And Peace on Earth’.

Abigail has a close relationship with the Diocese of Birmingham and has sung for Bishop John Sentamu on a number of occasions including his recent confirmation service of his election as Archbishop of York at St Mary Le Bow in London.

Her musical theatre roles include Eviline in ‘The Wiz’, Yum-Yum in ‘The Mikado’, Mrs Coretta King in ‘King’, Mary Flynn in Sondheim’s ‘Merrily we roll along’ and Elsie in Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Yeoman of the Guard’ with Birmingham youth opera company Operamus.

Abigail‘s opera roles include Amour in Rameau’s ‘Pygmalion’,  Helena and Juno in Purcell’s ‘The Fairy Queen’, Belinda in Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’ and most recently  Despina in Mozart’s ‘Cosi fan tutte’ and Pamina in ‘The Magic Flute’ as part of the Conservatoire’s Opera Scenes.

Other performances include actress/singer solo in Luca Francesconi’s ‘Lips, eyes…bang’ with the Thallein Ensemble at Birmingham Conservatoire for which she received critical acclaim.
